Current Obsessions | October ☕

27 October, 2018

October is the best time of the year because we are halfway through fall and it's spooky season!! I really love Halloween decorations and this time of the year, so I've decided to list a few of my favorite things right now. Fall colors are my favorite and so is fall television so I've included some of that too. This is sort of a mini October wrap-up/ life lately type of post, including a ton of pumpkin pictures and that I wanted to share so . . here we go!

The Regrettes - California Friends
    • This is a new single from The Regrettes which is a rockin' band and this is a rockin' single and I like it a lot.
One OK Rock

    • One OK Rock is one of my favorite bands (I recommend clock strikes) and they are all so good  but you know I have a special place in my heart for the vocalist duh, so I've been listening a lot more recently.
Some other honorable-mention-semi-current songs that I've been into:
    • I Hope You're Happy - Blue October
    • With Confidence - Moving Boxes
    • Edge Of Town - Middle Kids

-- Books --

The only book I have read recently is Emergency Contact by Mary H.K. Choi and it was pretty pretty good. I picked it up because the cover is really cute and when I started reading I wasn't really into it at first but I'm a sucker for bad romance.

Penny is the main character and she is she's adjusting to her new college life away from her overbearing mother, who Penny is really lucky to have. A lot of reviews don't like Penny as a main character because she comes off as pretty abrasive and always complains about her mom who just really cares about her and makes me think the author was trying too hard to get into a teenager's head.

Penny as a whole might be trying a little too hard because she's a great mix of cynical goth and constantly annoyed teenage girl, which I'm sure there are people like Penny out there, but takes some warming up to.

Sam is a much more likable character and begins a really weird / cute text relationship with Penny and the story progresses. Overall it was a cute and lighthearted book but not an all time favorite :)

Currently working on reading more before the year is over and few books I'm going to read are:
    • Everything That Makes You by Moriah McStay
    • Nice Try, Jane Sinner  by Lianne Oelke
    • The Rule of Mirrors by Caragh M.  O'Brien
    • All Of This Is True by Lygia Day Penaflor

-- Film & TV --

Meteor Garden   - I LOVE THIS SHOW. It's one of my all time favorites now and I just finished all of it and I'm truly obsessed. This is a Chinese show and I was a little skeptical at first because I had to get used to the characters but I love them! The show is so funny and quirky and you never know what is going to happen to these people. The main character is Shancai Dong and a lot of the show is an on and off again romance but with some good actions scenes where lives are on the line. It also focuses a lot of Shancai's family and her friend groups and spontaneous vacation scenes and I love it a lot.

A few other favorites that I've been watching a lot lately is Newsies  which is now on Netflix, Terrace House  which is a Japanese reality show, and The 100  which is a dystopian drama and I've always been unable to tear my eyes away from that show. A few Halloween favorites are also Hocus Pocus, The Craft, and Practical Magic.

I would like to mention a few of my favorite #Inktober drawings from this month that I've seen on Instagram because the people dedicated enough to do these are incredible. (Each photo is linked to their page on instagram.)

Helloo I really hope you are having a great fall and aren't too swamped by midterms. A few miscelleneous fall favorites are also giant sweaters, pumpkin carving (duh), and of course orange everything. Lately I've been very very into my routine and trying to keep myself on track so that would explain the lack of writing.  Working on doing the things I want to do and letting go of that which does not serve me.

Happy Fall!
