forget me not | a poem or a song

14 September, 2020

I picture you
twenty four and afraid
of letting things change
just enough to let me in

or maybe you
and your friends
swim blind
through deep ends
to calm the roaring noise

I've written one too many stories
about tattoos on every surface
we wrestle fiction and a purpose
I mourn something I haven't lost yet
but who are you?

it would be nice
if you wrote poems
about your emotions
and the unexplainable

or maybe you
run on the weekends
through forests
of make pretend
and wait for the sunrise

I could fall into your eyes
it doesn't matter what your name is
we wrestle fiction and a purpose
I mourn something I haven't lost yet
but who are you?

I'll never forget this image
we're too invested in all of this
one day we'll all but forget
and still I regret all of it

I want to know your everything
I dream of all the chaos you'd bring
we could wrestle fiction and purpose
I could mourn something I haven't lost yet
but then, who are you?
